Another full term lies in wait for us. I would like to start with some exciting news - Adam Griffiths, a scout from our district, has chosen to join Craighall and offer his time as a scouter. Please join me in welcoming him to Craighall and extend to him the warm welcome we have all become used to. Our focus for the term continues to be on implementing the patrol system, in developing skills and leadership in all the boys. A couple of camps had to be cancelled last term due to lack of attendance at these events. While the details of our events are often finalised shortly prior to the event, the dates are published as soon as possible – often at the start of the term – so please pencil in the dates to make yourself available. At the risk of sounding like a scratched CD, the ongoing success of Craighall is dependant on the active participation of all scouts and families. We are fortunate to have a great pool of fantastic scouters to assist me in running the troop. These cogs need the continuous support of the parents to enable the smooth running of our programme. Term highlights: Kimberly Night Hike There is a “new” event on the Craighall calendar this term and this is known as the Kimberly Night Hike – and it is pretty much that – a hike, that takes place at night in the Kimberly Area. It is renowned through-out the country as one of the most successful and enjoyable night-hikes on the scouting calendar. We do want to know ASAP whether people are keen to attend this event. Due to the transport logistics there may be additional costs involved. Please let Jock know on Friday evening if you are interested so we can make arrangements and determine the costs. Junior and Senior Scout Hike This is an annual event and is always a hit – with many great stories to be told and re-told. Please do make an effort to attend. Going Up ceremony Another testament to the group’s ongoing success is that there are seven cubs who are going to be joining scouts before the end of the year. This means that we will have a link camp (hopefully organised by one of the seniors for their first class camp) and at least one going up ceremony. All you need to remember is that the scout programme starts 30 minutes earlier when we have such a ceremony. Uniforms As has been communicated before, we are going to apply stricter standards for uniforms from this term. Scouts are expected to have the proper uniform each Friday night, which includes the new Craighall patch. Shoes may be black school shoes or hiking boots. Tekkies/sneakers are not permitted.
