The Scouting Programme Scouting is perhaps most well-known for training young boys to tie knots. While tangible skills like knots, camping and hiking are a key component of the programme, the ideal is to promote the development of leadership, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, in conjunction with the development of a healthy respect for the outdoors and outdoor activities. We also like to play an active role in our community. At the age of 16 a scout should be able to organize a weekend away for ten people. This would include finding a venue, organizing transport of people and equipment, organize food and accommodation and to compile a safe, entertaining programme for the weekend. No other organizations provide our youth with the opportunity to develop such life skills. About First Craighall1st Craighall Scout Group is a fully fledged member of the South Africa Scouting Association. We are in the Northwest District , in Gauteng Province. Records show that Craighall Scout Group has been in existence for at least 60 years. Over the many years we have seen many scouts come through the ranks an fulfill their role in society. Our hall is located on the corner of Buckingham and Hamilton Roads in Craighall - A block away from the Virgin active Gym on Jan Smuts Avenue. Our Cubs Group caters for boys aged between 7 and 11 years. Cubs meet every Friday at the hall from 5pm until 7pm. Our Scout Group caters for boys aged between 12 and 18 years. Scouts meet every Friday at the hall from 7:15pm until 9:15pm. Our achievements The highest achievement that a scout can achieve before his 18th birthday is the Springbok Scout award. This is by no means an easy achievement. Craighall has produced at least ** Springbok scouts. Over the past few years, our scout membership has swelled from a handful to 22 scout members.Recently the Craighall have done extremely well in the district camping competition, known as Strauss Shield, and the Gauteng Cycle Rally, coming second place in each of these events. Recently we have seen two cubs achieve their leaping wolf, and 1 scout achieve his Springbok award. The previous Springbok from Craighall was over 6 years ago and we have not had a leaping wolf for some time either, so 2 cubs in one year is a phenomenal achievement. The success of the group is largely thanks to the commitment of the volunteer staff and parents who all give freely of their time and efforts. How can you help We believe the scout hall was last refurbished over 30 years ago and is now in need of maintenance and improvement. Additionally, for the safety of our children, we would very much like to erect a perimeter fence around the grounds. If you can assist with sponsorship or donation in any way towards our wish-list attached, please do get into contact with us.
